Message Or Messenger?
When it comes to receiving messages, it's easy to receive one from people we like, agree with, or someone we haven't discredited. But what about receiving a Message from people we don't like or have seen one too many flaws in?
Do we put up walls when it comes to people like that? We have to ask ourselves, what is more important here, the message or the messenger? The information being delivered or the person who delivers it? It doesn't Matter What Portal the message is delivered through whether it be a book, letter, or mouth, what I'm talking about here is the source of the Message.
Every now and then I will come across a great quote that will say, “unknown” under it because no one knows the author of its valuable contents. I believe people will receive the wisdom of the quote in its fullness if they don't know “who” wrote it. Because, walls go up when certain names are mentioned.
For example, Martin Luther King Jr. has said and wrote many powerful things that stand true. Well, people know M.L.K was a Christian preacher, so while the Christian and/or non- bias person may receive his messages knowing the messenger, the atheist or bias person will reject the message of M.L.K, because, and only because, M.L.K is the one that delivered it.
But only if that same message was written or spoken by another Person/Messenger, that Same atheist or biased person may have received it. There are so many examples to use here, but you get the point.
Now on to view this topic from another angle. A more personal angle.
If you received a letter that is powerful, packed all with positivity and how people can change and can be all they can be. The letter even gets personal for you, pointing out your strengths and encouraging you to keep sharpening your skills while also pointing out your weaknesses and telling you how to overcome them.
A letter so powerful that you decide while still reading it. You are gonna commit to the advice while promising yourself to share its valuable contents with everyone in your circle. Only when you get finished with the letter and get to the, “sincerely” part of who it is from, to find out the letter is from a person you despise. A person you may have even called a monster or even wished death upon for years since an incident that may have occurred. And there is still some hate and unforgiveness in your heart. But even with all that and the bad unforgettable memories flooding your mind from a place you buried so deep in a hole they would never resurface.
After discovering the author behind the letter, are the contents of this letter still powerful? Is the wisdom in writing that's right in front of you still valuable?
This is a personal question only you can answer for yourself. But I believe the most important question is, what's more important, the message or the Messenger?
Some of us who were evil and inflicted harm onto others are now changed and are creating positive change for those around us, and those we've offended or those who know of our offenses refuse to believe that we are sincere in our motives regardless of how good and valuable the message may be.
But those who put up walls and reject the message because of who the messenger is, only limit themselves. I believe If there is knowledge to be gained then by all means gain it. We must always seek to grow and learn regardless of who the messenger is.
Rejecting valuable knowledge based on the person giving it, is like rejecting water on a hot day based on the container it is carried in.
I’m talking about righteous knowledge and wisdom here, not deception written or spoken by an evil mind trying to deceive you. A mature man and/or woman will know the difference.
Back to what I was saying, I'm no foreigner to unforgiveness and passing judgment on people In my past, but I learned to look past a person's flaws, offenses, and mistakes when it comes to learning something valuable.
I would hate for someone to reject my message because of a past offense.
While NO ONE is capable of being perfect, we are ALL perfectly capable of making mistakes. We all have a past and change is real, trust me I'm living it!!
In fact it's usually the people who have made the most mistakes in life that carry with them the most experience, and if they are willing to speak, then maybe we should listen.
